Another Carawagon on the front lawn!

Today, we went on a little trip over to near Rochdale to pick up
my latest aquisition, a 1965 Carawagon.

Rex, with his Prima TDi performed well, as expected, though some
of the hills around Littleborough/Rochdale meant dropping down
into 1st.
Had a bit of a scare at the top of 'Windy Hill' (M62 Eastwards
over Saddleworth Moor - something like 2-3 miles of uphill
:o). Temp guage went right into the red, so we pulled off at the
top to let it cool down, and no further problems.
Luckily, there was a 40mph limit in place because of high winds,
so we didn't feel too unsafe keeping to 40 ;D
Notice that this Carawagon is unusual in that it doesn't have a
pop up roof - never has had!
Luckily I already have a roof for it (picked up last week ;))

I've now got 4 109s parked on my front lawn, and only one of
them isn't mine 8) Must get sorted and decide which one (or
two?) to sell ???

it has very small side windows in the back are they normal on
that type of carawagon

Yep, that's the side with the cabinets, which come to the bottom
of those windows.
The other side has full size windows.
Our other one, based on a Station Wagon, has full size windows
all round ;D

Resigned, I think is the term, Alex ;)
As I've just counted up on t'other forum, I've now got 4 Land
Rovers, a caravan, a car trailer, a 1963 Ape50 and two other
trailers parked on the front lawn. That's not including
Patrick's SWB when he's here.
Also about 20 wheels & tyres, a few spare body panels, a 109
tub, a SWB roof & sides etc. etc. etc. etc. 'hidden' under a
very large, spreading conifer, again in the front garden (and
it's not that big a garden!)
Oh, and that's the reason I'm storing my 18' cabin cruiser at a
farm nearby - that would be just too much, I think :P
I think when BeyC called my last 109 ( the one with the winches)
Steptoe, he might have had an inkling of what else we had here
::)

that is indeed a good looking motor. Strange, I always thought
that the De-Luxe always had a pop up roof, maybe it was an
option in the earlier days.

Hi Stuey,
I think the terms were:
Ultimate = pop up roof
Continental = SW version (like our other one)
Not sure what Deluxe signified, but I don't think it was the
roof ???

Robin, this is how I understood the 109 models (geek mode on)
Deluxe - based on 3 door 109 van with a pop up roof
Continental - based on 5 door station wagon, without a pop up
roof.
(Continental) Ultimate - same as Continental but with a pop up
roof.
If that makes sense?
Obviously we all know that Searle did other conversions too!
