200tdi alternator mounting

After some advice to mounting my alternator on 200tdi in a 109
S3. I was going to go down the Glencoyne route, but tight as a
ducks arse, I couldnt bring myself to pay 30 quid for a couple
of bolts and spacers. ..... Now Ive changed my mind (found some
loose change behind the sofa...) Glencoyne has sold out of the
kit!!!! Need my landy on the road so any advice greatly
appreciated. Better still, anyone around Driffield, Malton etc
who fancys showing me (read..doing it for me) will be rewarded
with tea and food and maybe some free range blue eggs. Yep, they
really are blue, and pastel green :)
Cheers, frustrated Tony

I think from what I have read the normal way of using a series
alternator mount with some spacers can have its issues, there
are tales of the longer bolts/studds snaping off and the
alternator falling off .
Not saying it is an absolute no no but it may be worth looking
in to making something more rubust, hope this helps.
I am intending to try make something to mount mine high up as
possible on the right hand side, this is to keep it out of the
way of intercooler pipes and other enfarclement and also to keep
it high out of the mud and water.
I am sure somebody posted a picture of one they made recently?

Here's how I did it, much better than Glencoynes efforts!

I have to say, I was a bit reluctant to part with cash for the
'extended bolt kit' as it didnt really seem robust enough.

It's easy enough to make the kit up using long bolts and tubing
- I've done a couple like that until the first one snapped its
bolts after about 10k miles :smiley-furious:
Since then I've cut and shut Series mounts using 6mm plate,
replacing the original spacer ones, even the ones which haven't
snapped.
The three I've done like that are still ok.

Big hand full of washers and long bolts has seen mine right for
a good long while. It was a get it fitted sharpies job but not
got round to a more permanent solution yet but might do when I
get a dose of arsedness :rolleye0012:

similar method to toots here, i used three 10mm thick nuts
stacked on each of the bolts
i was very picky on the nuts i used and ensured the faces were
very square and flat so that when stacked they contacted nicely
and didn't rock, been on the engine two years now without
problems

If you want an off the shelf solution, bits4landys on eBay (the
mob that do lots of galv stuff) have a single piece machined
spacer: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221286065162
