The Great Dusty Steam Fair in Dorset

Some pictures - it was a first time for me, but I thoroughly
enjoyed it, but the dust did get to you after a while, and I can
still taste it!
I went on an organised trip with Thornes Independent

a family coach business near Selby, who often advertise in Old
Glory - anyway, as we had done the Vintage Manxman earlier in
the year, we decided to go with them to Dorset. Apart from the
coaches, they also have an old Series One in their garages,
which I suggested to the owner would look great restored and
painted in their 'Creamline' colour scheme.
We travelled on a 1958 Seddon chassied coach, with AEC engine

It did well on the 500+ mile return trip, but did get a bit hot
on occasions. The aircon consisted of having the passenger door
open as we drove down the motorway!
Two of their other coaches also made the trip

there were approximately 160 odd in attendance!

Fuck me! You don't get pissed on the right side of fifty quid
there, do you?
As I recall Edd80 teling me once, that model of Marshall tandem
of his is one of only two left; the other is in NZ or Aus (I
forget).
Here's another pic of his. I know Edd and Sally have been
working on the roller for some years, so it's many, many moons
before they owned it, I reckon.

Nice old-school coach firm you went with there, Mark. I'll bet
you felt right at home with the driver, as his mirror-image
shows him to also be a slap-head :smile1

little to see everything in more than a passing glimpse

there, and still probably not seen everything.

Not in ownership (tho it must be getting on for a decade since
Edd and Sally bought it), but Edd's family have been involved
with the previous owner's engines for a long long time. There's
some kwality "Young Edd" photos and a good article on the roller
in Vintage Spirit mag this month.

Well it's damned nice it's stayed in familiar surroundings and
not passed on to a multitude of ambitious but failing in will
and resources owners.
Edd and Sally have done sterling work to get it to show
standard.

Edd told us that while it was under restoration, it spent time
in a local workshop or something, and prior to the boiler outer
skin being fitted, the boiler was just lagged in modern
insulation material, which was also covered in foil.
Any way, this led to the roller (being vertical boilered) being
referred to as the (insert name of village) space project!
