diesel bleeding

I'm losing the will to live and if I had a shot gun I WOULD
shoot my truck!
When I first put the 2.5td into my truck it would fire and I had
fuel up to the injectors however the pump had a leak from the
damper on the bottom of it. I have since replaced said damper
but now I cannot get fuel up to the injectors. I have rebled the
system, fuel filter, both bleed screws on the pump fuel pipe in
and return but that's where it stop. I have now run out of
ideas. The stop solenoid seems to be working.
One thing that im not sure of is the lift pump. When I pump it
manually there is resistance there but goes slack. Could this be
at fault? The battery is a 100ahr so cranks it over fine.
Other than that I don't know!
your thoughts please?
Steve

I spent ages fucking about with mine the other day. I even
swapped over lift pumps, thinking, like you, that it was doing
fuckall. But it wasn't the problem.
It just turned out to be loads of air and needed loads of
bleeding. Crank it on the starter with the bleed nipple open on
top of the fuel pump plenty, retighten. Crack open feed to No1
injector, more cranking.
Repeat as necessary. It's worth having another batt on charge.
The 2.25 was a piece of piss to bleed through by comparison.

As above (both ! )
other common causes could include, seal on the filter (new one
put on but old one still in the groove), copper washers
(locations changed and not sealing now), non-return valve
sticking and the list goes on.......
You are aiming to get a good clear stream of fuel coming through
though, sometimes the lift pump can rest "on cam" i.e it is in
its lifted position in the engine, if that happens then pumping
it by hand can feel all floppy and deliver no fuel ?

That's easiest!
We did this round Toby's quiet little quaint village when we
swapped the 2.25 in Landyboy's snotter, We got many funny looks
with the big clouds of smoke! ;D

I know your pain as I had the same problems with my Perkins. It
sounds similar to mine which turned out to be air still in the
injector pump. I almost burnt the starter motor out trying ti
bleed it. You could try running it in Easy start until it
catches (hopefully). I renewed the filter housing and fuel pipe
unions to eliminate air leaks.
