Galvanising fuel tanks?

Can it be done/has anyone ever done it? Reason I ask is one job
I'v been meaning to get done for a couple of years now is to
carry out some repairs to a pair of (rivet countery correct type
of) military underseat fuel tanks for my swb FFR and was
wondering if if can be done or not?

It can be done but I heard that the galvanising can come off in
tiny flakes on the inside and block up the fuel system. This may
just apply to diesels but I'm not sure. Then again it may just
be BS. ???

Be careful, as some tanks are soldered together. Galving will
melt the solder....

Will check carefully then before I do anything like that then
:-) they're the ones I got off you Toby so given the age of them
they might be soldered at a guess

too?

I think it may seem the cheaper option, galvanizing. But when
one considers the possible pitfalls, as mentioned above, I'd
probably look at stainless steel ones, if available.
Completely devoid of originality rivets, I'll give...but nice.

I'd go for stainless on TET and Ralph if they need theirs
replacing at some point, and no doubt that these can be made
leak free again just wondered the pros and cons of galvanising
them though, will check them out more once I'm back and done
some work on them first :)

I used to use something called Petseal on my Guzzi sieves
tanks, a sort of polymer/resin based gung which dried hard and
petrol proof. Expensive but very effective but haven't seen
it advertised for some time.

non fuel tank related but oil contaminated metal may result in
poor galvanizing/painting results (been told so)
i don't know if fuel tanks would give poor results etc.
