Gunk isn't what it used to be :(

I've finally run out of my supply of original Gunk, bought in
the 1970s.
As a lot of us "older" folk know, it was fantastic stuff - a
proper solvent which dissolved grease, and was water soluble so
it just needed rinsing off.
Things were great before H&S stepped in :-?
I've tried the new pink Gunk and it's absolutely rubbish
compared to the old stuff - if I use a brush it just pushes the
grease and oil around and doesn't seem to dissolve it at all
:2mo5pow:
I use red Diesel in my parts washer, but as that's not water
soluble I don't really want to use it to clean engines/gearboxes
in vehicles or on the drive as I think I would need a paddling
pool to work in to stop it contaminating the lawn or block
paving.
I've resorted to splashing the new Gunk all over my engine then
jet washing it off, but I'm not sure if the Gunk actually does
anything - I'm sure I'd get the same result just with the jet
wash :-?
So, apart from looking for an industrial steam cleaner, what do
other folk find works? Perhaps neat washing up liquid?
Cheers,
Robin.

I have a big tin of Jizzer which seems OK, but again the H&S may
have got to it by now?

New jizer still works. I use that and engine degreaser and they
both do a good job but the engine degreaser is much better.

I tend to use old thinners to remove the majority of crud then
wash off with Marine Clean. Don't know if it's suitable for a
recirculating parts wash though.
Marine Clean

I find Cillit Bang Power Degreaser works well.

I don't want it for my parts washer - I use red Diesel in that.
This is for degreasing engines in the vehicle, on the drive, and
needs to be able to be washed away with water so thinners,
petrol, Diesel, white spirit, paraffin are all out.
The Marine Clean looks like it might work though

Is that ok on aluminium?
I thought I'd heard Cillit Bang dissolves aluminium :-?

I use neat caustic TFR the proper stuff that you're meant to
dilute to 25:1 or something like that. Spray it on with a garden
sprayer then scrub it a bit with a brush and wash off. Just make
sure it all gets rinsed off aluminium bits.

It will do if you soak it in it overnight or something but to
just spray on, leave for 10min then wash off you should be ok.

I use industrial kitchen degreaser, 5Lt bottle from Bookers Cash
& Carry. Spray on neat, leave for a bit then wash off with a
hose. Makes your hands look like prunes pretty quick so I think
its decent stuff !
