Basically...it's shite.
Use it to paint the railings on the garden wall but I'd not put
it near the truck.

Apparently it is very porous. Doesn't matter how many coats you
give it, what ever you paint will still rust. I was advised to
use normal gloss paint however I've now discovered rustoleum
which is ace!

Is it new hammerite or has it been stood for ages somewhere? If
it is the old hammerite that dries quickly and sends you dizzy
it is not too bad at all. The new stuff is totally shite.
Also RIP Plasticote, this used to be excellent for plastic items
but Health and Safety got hold of it and it is now water based
and shite, most places have stopped stocking it :(

I've come to the conclusion most paint you get " over the
counter" from DIY stores is total crap when it come to car
stuff, most seam to be water based, to dry water has to
evaporate from the solids so if there is a pocket under the
paint water from the paint will fill it, sounds like a good way
to start rust to me.
Not tried por15 or epoxy121, both supposed to stop rust and seal
the metal but at £28 for 1/2ltr plus all the prep stuff you
"must" use to get a perfect finish it comes to the thick end of
a ton just to an axle
As stated if it's the old stuff it's not to bad but a devil to
overcoat, if it's the new gear HAMMERSHITE.

This is one of the reasons I have had quite a few suitable items
galvanised on my rebuild, because the cost of decent paint makes
it cost in.
