You got something against Series type stuff on a Series? Fitting
coiler shit is a NONO.... does this mean you are a HOMO, NONO?
Anyway, the word "Defender" was screwed to the grille in 1989.
The previous 6/7 years of production "not good enough for you"

No problem with series stuff.
I am just Dutch and we are as cheap as can be.
Due to new tax regulations here in Holland a lot of debenders
are being broken up as they are no longer "cheap" ??? to run.
So I just hoped there was a cheap way to a heated rear screen.
And it seems there is :smilewide: thanks for the tips

Never mind the heated screens, pull the Tdi engines out of them
if they're scrap prices!

Who's up for "Tdi rescue"? Take a couple of 109s and trailers
over and load up on cheap Tdi engines for the "folks back 'ome?
Good excuse for a mini euro leaf!

We used to have tax exemption for cars older than 25 years.
Then they changed it to build up to 30 years each year adding
one year (so we where in line with most EU countries).
Now they have decided to move it up to 40 years, with a transfer
rate of only 25% tax a year for all cars now older than 25 but
younger than 40.
But diesel and lpg powered cars don't qualify for the discount
rate........
And as road tax is determined here through weight a defender is
silly expensive
All this happened with in a year.
So from the most tolerant country within the EU towards
oldtimers we went to the most strict rules.
All of this because a certain ethnic group liked old stinking
diesel Mercs and started importing them like crazy.
Now these are offered for next to noting because they are not
cheap any more, and the older 4x4 lovers have to pay the price
But my soon to arrive 109 is 50 years old so I am safe ;D

Sounds truly ridiculous and perhaps a good reason to emigrate.

> Major goal is to start with a full operational system in 2016
in which every car user will pay a tariff per driven kilometre.
Starting point is that for the average car user, the car
mobility will not be more or less expensive. In order to
accomplish this, the fixed car and road taxes will be abolished.
Point of departure is to convert the road tax (MRB) into a
tariff per kilometre. In this report is examined what the
impacts are in case the purchase tax for private cars (BPM) will
be incorporated into a price per kilometre as well.

Perhaps the Dutch population would consider standing together
and sending a unanimous fuck off to the powers that be that came
up with that one. :wanker:

I know this is controversial, but I think in theory road pricing
(paying per mile) is actually going to be better for most.
Imagine you have a LR as a second (hobby) car. It gets taken on
the road 2 weekends a month, and maybe a week or two in the
summer for a holiday you cover <5,000 miles a year, generally at
sensible speeds.
Why should you have to pay the same road tax as the person with
the knackered old Izuzu Trooper spewing clouds of black smoke,
doing 15,000 miles a year up and down the outside lane the
motorway everyday with a load bed full of crap on his way to
work for Pikey Scaffolders Inc?
The only difficulty I see is enforcement? How can you track
every car? If you only do it on motorways you'll just end up
with traffic jams on the back roads? How can you make sure that
the price you are paying is "fair", i.e. actually reflects the
cost of the damage you are doing to the roads, the cost by
adding to traffic levels thus slowing down journey time etc? cos
you can sure as hell bet the Gov't will gouge the hell out of
it.
I think file it under "nice idea, but good luck getting it
working in practice" And in the mean time the Gov't has by the
sounds of it done the usual halfway house and ruined it for
pretty much everyone who aides by the rules, leaving the people
who they were trying to target probably in the same position as
they weren't following the rules in the first place.
Wow, that was a rant, sorry! :WTF

I actuality like the principle of paying by the mile.
Even for my classics as I do use the road and do not mind paying
for what I use.
Then I could spread my miles over even more cars and not have
the burden of a car standing still costing shtloads of money
The only problem is how to do this without invading/compromising
my privacy?

The problem with all of this is when Governments and taxation
are concerned, Kilroy said it.

You'll get shafted. We all do pay a price per mile to use the
road network, sucked out of our wallets in fuel duty. As
Governments are involved you can bet your bottom dollar the
administrative costs would be beyond ridiculous and it would be
implemented in the most cack-handed way possible. Even if I
thought it was a nice idea, which I don't, I can't see it
working very well. On the upside, if some bureaucrat turns up
with a GPS device and tries to install it on a series Landy it
won't be hard to find and smash the crap out of with a brummie
screwdriver. :smiley-furious:
