Series 3 chassis number?

Daft question, but did series 3 chassis ever have a chassis
number stamped on them.
Mines a 1971 and I can't find anything other than the ally plate
fixed above the gearbox tunnel.
Should it have one, and will MOT man need to see it in addition
to the ally plate.
I know he needed to see the one on my s2 chassis (on the dumb
iron) prior to starting the test, but my s2's not got an ally ID
plate.

thought most were on the dumb irons and rotted off! never seen
or been asked for any of mine, i would nt worry! :smile1

Not really worrying, just wondering if they should be there.
Pretty sure my rusty dumb irons are the originals, and I can't
see anything.

Your MOT man is a wanker for suggesting one was needed for a 2a.
A visible vin is only needed well into S3 production. 1989 rings
a bell.

They all had them stamped Mark, however the depth does seem to
vary considerably. Also the position isn't always the same. I'd
have thought a wire brush on a grinder should reveal all if it's
there.

- from how I interpret
that as long as you have an chassis number or VIN plate attached
somewhere it should satisfy the MOT requirements for a series,
there's no need to be able to show one stamped on the chassis.

Only required August 1980 on.
I don't have bulkhead plates or chassis numbers on two of mine -
my MOT tester took it from the V5 the first time I took them in,
and from the old MOT certificate since then.

That 1989 was a pissed up typo.... 1980 was what I was
attempting to type, obviously.. considering the S3 dating
reference. :confused:

Thanks Chaps
All comments taken on board. Will stick with just the ID plate
on bulkhead for now.
The MOT tester is OK to be honest, maybe he just forgot to read
that Chapter in his book Jim.

Maybe so, but when we're not certain about a particular ruling,
we're told to pass and advise. If he's gonna get that bit wrong,
what other incorrect judgments has he made, considering either
an unnecessary repair or a component/dynamic condition wrongly
passed when it should have failed? I'm sorry, but I'm a stickler
for the rule book in respect of MOT law. Something could look
like a piece of shit, with all tyres on 2mm, but be legal.

Will see what he says when I take Ken in Friday for his yearly
health check.
Hopefully should be OK and get his passout for trip to Leafers
