splayed springs

my rear springs are starting to splay, its been an advisory on
the last few mots (the PO didn't do anything about them)
Is there a way to stop the splaying?
maybe by dismantling, cleaning all crap/rust off and then
rebuilding - or is it getting time for new ones
any ideas or suggestions?

they can be bowed/blown all over the place and it should only be
an advisory until a leaf is actually broken
a photo or two of the offending springs might help but you can
strip and clean them with the aid of a couple of G clamps

strip & clean / grease & rebuild will remove the crud & help
them flex but if they are collapsing / sagging then a rebuild
will not return their shape
I rebuilt mine 2 years ago & they are still going strong

they are not sagging, and give a good ride.
They just look like the're past their best
So I 'll give them a strip & clean & see what happens

When you have cleaned and greased them wrap them with Denso,
that'll keep the crap out.

Strip them, clean all the rust off with a grinder, coat them in
grease and re-assemble. They will go back to their proper shape,
and your truck will ride a whole lot better as well.
What's happened is they have gone rusty, and because when rust
occurs it produces more material than there was in the original
metal, it forces the spring leaves apart.
I fished a pair that looked like yours out of someone's scrap
bin, stripped cleaned and greased them, and used them on the
back of my 109". One is still there ~5 years and probably 70k
miles or so on, the other got replaced(by another rebuilt
spring out of someone else's scrap bin!) in April this year
after one of the lower leaves broke.

will normal grease do, or is there something specific to use?

I used moly grease as it has solids in that would be left
behind... I have also seen/ been recomended dry moly powder
spray but that was way too £££ for my likes
