       tyre fitters

I have 235/85/16 tyres & some wheels of questionable sexuality
Just popped down to my local tyre fitting place & ( with tyre in
hand ) & they ran a mile saying my wheels wont fit on their
machine & that they dont have a cone big enough to fit. I was
advised to go to a commercial place. Is this likely to be the
case with most tyre places or shall i take their advice & drive
to the other side of town to the commercial place?

to say they are wrong when they work there is a tough one,
however any place that looks after a wide range of vehicles
would be able to sort you out. ATS, NTS and any of the majors
should be able to help. They generally do not like messing about
with part worn tyres, they fear legality issues about swapping
       tyres unless you know them.

sounds like they didn't want the work, the hole in centre of
landy wheels are all the same (arnt they?) so they should have
       the kit.
every garage I've worked in has had the kit to do mine ;D
keep looking any decent fitter should be able to do it.

I work in a Vauxhall dealers.... I fitted my own 9.00s this
weekend just gone. They fitted the fitting machine and the
balancer. Sounds like he was a limp wristed faggot. If you're in
South Yorkshire, I'll do them for £8 a wheel.

Living in the countryside. our local tyre fitter does everything
from cars to tractors, so have no problems.

Well tried 2 other fitters last night... both had the same
problem the cone on the balance machines were too small for the
hole in the centre.. Gonna try a place that will look at light
commercials a bit later & see what they say, Jim you may be
       seeing me if that fails!

Must admit, I dont usually have the wheels balanced but not a
problem if you do want them sorting.....

Simply put - no. I've used 3 places all local to me and all of
them can fit up series wheels and tyres with no problems. The
only issue I have is with Tyron bands, none of the local places
seem able to deal with them. The only issue I've had recently
was ATS, they won't touch anything they don't supply. MeriTyre
have always looked after me and I use them now for everything.
