Clocking.....

Iv got a 200tdi on my engine stand, which I'm preparing . Now iv
clocked the turbo but I'm unsure about drilling and tapping for
the wastgate. I mean do take it off or drill and tap it where it
is . Thanks.

It's doable where it is but miles easier if you take it off and
use a pillar drill, you can hold it flat on the bed and
everything is nice and square.

Thanks Luke, am I right in thinking that the circlip holds the
inlet housing on. So I just undo it and it comes off...?

Yes, spray well with wd, tap it around a bit to loosen, then you
will need circlip pliers that open to at least 46mm to get the
fucker off
the new holes are drilled just the other side of a recess, from
memory, possibly m6, cant quite remember

i left the actuator hooked on to the lever and hoiked the outlet
up to the approximate postion where i wanted it and still be
able to get the hose on
i then used an indelible marker to indicate my drilling point
(first hole)
took the snail to my pillar drill and made the hole, carefully
tapped it and then bolted the actuator back to it, this allowed
me to accurately mark where the next hole was to be by using the
pillar drill with a drill that only just fitted in the hole
swapped drills back to the smaller size and drilled the second
hole in bang on the correct place
the aluminium used in the snail seemed to be really soft and
bound the tap really easily so it was tapped very slowly with no
more than 1/4 turns and removed two or three times per hole to
remove the swarf
the worst bit is the size of the circlip it's huge and strong, i
went and bought a new set of big pliers from machine mart just
to remove it as none of mine were big enough

Thanks gents, I wasn't sure. Bought new circlips today, the big
ones from machine mart.
