I know of a few efi rover v8s but im worried about the leccy
side, i know il need the ecu thing but is it just a box that
comes with the engine you swap over or is it a nightmare??

There's a couple of different types of EFI, hotwire and flapper,
no idea what the differences are, but I think one is simpler
than the other. Supposed to give more power and better economy,
       but not tried it myself.

somewhere on the web the wiring will have been sorted and it
shouldn't be "too" difficult to find as these efi'd engines will
have been swapped into various motors by now
don't forget that it's not only crank sensers, air meter sensor,
temperature sensor (at least not in the 3.9) there'll be the
sensor in the downpipes that'll need a boss welding in
i very much doubt it'll be that hard to figure out after a day
or two googling which is how i do most of my research, you may
have to alter the phrasing of your search to get exactly the
wiring or hunt through quite a few links but eventually (after
being pissed off a fair bit) the answer generally appears
my 3.9 efi google search (not looked at any of the links)
  HTML https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=rover+3.9+efi+engine+swap&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&gws_rd=cr
i just had to be nosey

If its a non cat 3.5 injection its a doddle
Its while since I did one but essentially the injection harness
and ECU requires four wires tapping into the vehicle
IIRC its ignition live, starter live, fuel pump feed and I think
       earth.
When Land Rover changed from carb to injection they piggybacked
the whole electronics package with as little change to the car
       wiring loom as possible
AS time went by the set up became much more complex but the
       early system works well enough
The trick is to take the injection harness with the donor
       engine, complete with ignition system

Nooooo, ditch the points dizzy and get with the modern age.
Stick a 35dlm8 dizzy on it. No extra wiring, no points, no
       condenser, just works.

if you look down the dizzy hole it'll either have a slot on the
oil pump drive or a tang sticking up then get a dizzy to suit.
Can get some nice eleccy ones on egay well worth it.

Without a doubt distributors are the most common cause of poor
       performance out of a V8
Over the years I've had a lot of V8's and every single one of
them has required a distributor rebuild no matter what its age.
Unless it has been carefully maintained its highly likely the
the centrifugal weights will be seized and the vacuum advance
       not working
If you are going to spend money on a V8 then the distributor is
the 1st place to spend it ;D
