       stupid idea......

Now my fire tender is a second vehicle what im thinking of doing
is fitting a silly engine as fuel is no longer an issue plus the
tdi is a rattly horrible thing really!
im thinking gmc v8 diesel mainly cos i cant afford a small block
       chevy.... :rolleye0012: :haha:
I dont mind making engine mounts etc but my concern is the
gearbos as usual. rest of the drivetrain im not arsed about.
What i really want is an autobox attached to the original
transfer box. Did someone on here have something like a jag box
that might fit or some early ford thing??
Anyone got any ideas on this totally shite idea???? rofl

Not quite such a silly idea - using a rover v8 and an sd1 bw66
autobox with an old ashcroft adaptor. Think it's going to be a
       giggle.

I have a 6.2 gmc lying dormant in the shed Perks, it is a bloody
great lump of a thing...... I kinda broached the subject of
fitting it into a leafer once but everybody present thought I'd
       completely lost it.....
It's all there, even got starter and power steering pump on it,
I got it in a deal but have no clue whatsoever as to how good or
       bad it is ?

not a stupid idea - although a big heavy lump. were a few fitted
in rangeys etc so should be possible to fit in 109.
that auto box comment gives me an idea for mine

Not a stupid idea but personally I'd be looking for a petroleum
spirit burner rather than heavy oil for 8 cylinders in a vee
formation. Whilst it works when you go big (i.e. 15 litre Merc
etc) small displacement eights don't seem that good. My cousin
had a Ford V8 diesel in a pickup stateside and that was nothing
but trouble, the only rated small displacement oil burners are
Dodge trucks with the straight six Cummins from the people I've
spoken to. For me it'd be diesel straight six or petrol V8.

I once had a Range Rover with a GMC 6.2 V8 diesel in it
Despite my initial scepticism it was bloody good, went like a
       train, 25mpg, sounded quite nice.
Only drawback was that it wasn't very good at stopping due to
the weight, braking on a wet surface and it locked up quite a
lot. Could of been a quirk of that particular vehicle though

Jags, That is virtually the same discription as my landlord at
the big shed gave about one he had in a RR, with the exception
that he also said it was noisy as hell :smilewide:

i ve fitted big perkins in before and my only concern is not the
engine but the gearbox having shredded 3 lt77 boxes before in a
matter of months. I like the cummins 6 but cost is an issue, old
3.5 v8s are cheap but i could potentially leave the original box
       in..... :-?

Anyhing over a mild Rover v8 seems to be scoffed at due to
gearbox shredding and brakes having a limit to their abilities!
Would a forward control box and trnny work? There was one on the
auction website this week near me. I have heard the series trans
box will cope wkth a small block chevy but some have broken them
with a Rover ! So who knows
