And finally I've been under the landy cleaning it ready for
chassis paint, and found some bits to weld, but noticed the rear
axle is odd, any reason why it should be different from one side
to the other are am I a complete numpty and there are all like
       this ?

i've a similar bullbar on my late 88" 2a Skippy, not an original
fitment as from NZ though i'm guessing it was fitted in the late
80s from a pile of parts as it's also got S3 wings and rad'
       panel
the axle case is normal to have the strengthener welded on but
not all rover axles got them

From an article on lightweights I was looking at the other day,
that axle strengthening appears identical to the sort of
modification some airportable military stuff got in case of a
rough landing! Obviously I dont know what your Landy is or what
its history is, but if it is a civvy truck it may have gained a
       military axle in the past.
       Just my 2 pence anyway,
       Matthew

My early 3 had that on the axle too, they tend to rot out and
       lead to not failure.
