brake shoe springs

Is this right? Should the shoe on the left have a spring on it?

No both springs, top and bottom go into the holes on the shoes
to hold them against the cylinder and steady post at the bottom!

No, the picture is correct for 10" brakes apart from the spring
should hook through from the back, not the front.
There should also be a spring at the bottom between the two
shoes.

Thanks. Its got the spring on the bottom to. Ive got it all back
together and it seams ok. Cheers for the help guys.

Actually, I've just realised, the top spring should hook on to
the adjusting pin under the snail cam, not through the hole in
the shoe.
I think you can just about see on the pic I posted that it
doesn't come through the hole :rolleye0012:
George1990 over on t'other forum has just posted a better
picture.

Ive got it hooked on the pin now and its driving and braking
fine. Is there much work involved in changing it to double
cylinder type?

not really
i swapped my 10" front brakes for 11" in a short afternoon but i
did cheat a little and use rear backplates off a boingy to keep
the SLS and only one place to leak fluid out of
only thing to be aware of is the slaves will sit at 11 o'clock
and 1 o'clock respectively if using the same bits as i did
i think the boingy backplates are brilliant as it keeps it easy
to bleed, a snail for each shoe to minimise pedal travel really
well and the shoes last ages longer than 10" ones before needing
readjusting/replacing, although getting the adjustment on both
shoes is a fine art when doing it on your own
only downside is i feel they carry water for longer after wading
so even more care than usual is required especially as i think
they pull even more aggressively as they dry
one other thing is that they can be unbolted off the boingy and
then bolted straight onto the 88" without changing anything as
the slaves are the correct size for the front
