Viewing series 3 and not sure of value

Hi
I have one of those annoying what's it worth questions but I'm
buying not selling. I have heard about a local tax exempt
petrol series 3 88 for sale that has been in storage for the
last 4-5 years.
It apparently has a galvanised chassis, a Santana disc brake
kit. Parabolics and rocky mountain shocks, an unleaded head plus
a range of other upgraded bits. The bulkhead is rough but the
seller also has a primed up replacement to go with it.
The bodywork is said to be ok but the paintwork is quite a mess
and would need a respray by the sounds of it.
The seller is talking about £2k for it and seems to think the
bulkhead is worth £1k on its own! but how much would you value
it as due to its laid up state? I can't get any pictures off the
seller at the moment and may not before I get to view it either.

It's always hard to say, the question is what is it worth to
you. what are similar ones fetching?
If you bought a project and had to replace chassis and springs
ect it would come to more than that.
I looked at a project, knackered chassis but rest all good, I
offered £1000 cos it needed chassis, he wanted £2000 because he
valued the good bits at that. He has still got it!!
You could offer a grand and let him keep bulkhead?

series 3 bulkheads are pretty common. They struggle to get to
£500 let alone a grand on ebay. But a galv chassis and a kosher
disc brake conversion rather than 90 axles makes it interesting

If it has a galv chassis, and the Santana brakes, it's already
hitting a grand's worth of parts on it.... I'd roll in (were I
in the market for a S3 and had any money) with about £1250, and
let it rest at that. If the bloke comes back with a "definitely
not", then go to the pub. If it's a "I'll think about it" ring
him 2 weeks later... and stay with the offer... unless he
decides it's worth £1500. Then ask him to sell you the bulkhead
for £250. i.e. £1500 the lot. It's a growing market, and the kit
of parts alone is worth 4 figures..... Paint is subjective. The
worse it looks, the less likely it is to get nicked.

'Primed-up replacement' is a bit vague, 'ATGNI'. I'm sure
they're not your words, but his; and for his Bonhams-esque
price, I'd expect an overhauled and galv'd bulkhead.
Unless you can hear the engine running, Albert's offer bracket
is about right. It'd have to be a real honey S3 to fetch that 2k
kind of cash after such a lay-up.

I don't suppose the 'primed up replacement' is a Pegasus job
perhaps...? It only crossed my mind as the only plausible
explanation for his valuation.

I'd go along with what Jim says, for it to be worth £2K it'd
want a ticket in my book and be pretty well up together. If the
Santana disc brake conversion is the same as mine (early TI
Console version) I'd point out that as replacement brake discs
can't be had any more the kit is worthless... ;-)

Thanks for you thoughts guys, it is pretty similar to my
thinking. I would want a fully running road legal land rover I
could drive away for £2k. I was thinking £1500 as the very top
value. I had thought about offering without bulkhead too.
The galvanised chassis and disc brake conversion are what made
it stand out for me. But as mentioned the parts for the Santana
kit are pretty rare now-is there a disc that is an easy
alternative to fit?
I'm not too bothered about it not having pristine paint, I like
a character look but by its description I think it is more than
just "patina" it's a mix and match of different shades of green.
The bulkhead could be anything really with some primer blasted
over it and a seller's description can be quite different to the
real thing.

I have heard that Fiat Ducato van brake discs fit.... There are
two sizes... Ducato Maxi had 16" wheels.. (Basically a Talbot
Express in a Milanese dress) I have no proof of the truth of
this.

Gives you the disc dimensions and the Brembo part number, which
is a start (even if Brembo no longer produce them).
