MOT/Historic TAX Confusion

Firstly, and just to be clear, my S2a is completely un-road
worthy. It has no MOT, and I wouldn't dream of driving it
anywhere in its current state.
I went to the post office yesterday to tax the boingy and at the
same time make the sorn declaration on the S2a.
Both cars are insured but I lost the MOT for the other motor in
the various moves we've done recently - The S2a has no MOT.
I handed over the V5 for the first tax - the lady took the
relevant parts of the V5 to change the address, checked the
insurance - looked up in the DVLA database for the MOT - All was
good (Except the price! :smiley-furious: ) and she issued the
tax disc.
Then came the turn of S2a. I gave her the V5 (Also needed a
change of address) plus the Insurance and specifically told her
that I didn't have an MOT and just wanted to continue the
SORN... She checked my documents, ask her colleague something
about it running "concurrently" - then issued me a Historic Road
Tax disc?!
Am a little confused - My S2a is a 1964 model so should need an
MOT for the disc- Shouldn't it?
Can anyone clear up my understanding?

Yes it should have an MOT to be able to get a tax disc, even
though that disc is FOC.

I wonder then if there is a cut of date for information held in
the MOT Database?
If that is the case how many people are able to get a tax disc
without an MOT :eek:
Either that or the woman just cocked up. :-?

She fucked up Jon. Is the 2a insured for road risk (i.e. on the
MID and not on laid up cover)? If it is, fine. If not, SORN it
quick or you'll get fined. All taxed vehicles must be insured.

Thought as much.
I've got her insured on a full road policy - wishful thinking i
guess! So there shouldn't be an issue - plus she's not going
anywhere until I've got the MOT.

really?
I have a vehicle that was insured and taxed. The insurance ran
out but it is still taxed. I have not been fined nor expect to
be.

Continuous Insurance Enforcement rules apply since June 2011.
The owner of an uninsured vehicle will receive an
explanatory letter which if ignored is followed by a £100
charge, followed by court action with up to £1000 fine if the
vehicle remains uninsured. This doesn't apply to vehicles
declared SORN.

bugger me. I was planning on insuring it this month anyway, it
ran out about beginning of June so will have been two months sat
in the garage. thanks for the knowledge, it is appreciated.

I'd rather not, however as Clunk says the DVLA will. ;-) If I
were you SORN now online. Keep the disc, and phone the DVLA to
reinstate the disc when it's insured. That works, I've done it a
few times and stops the fuckers fining you.

Wow, I didn't know that - I thought they only fined you if you
drove uninsured not if you had it parked up.
