2.25 diesel surging

My series 3 diesel surges a bit over bumps. What is involved in
converting from rod to cable throttle ? I believe the problem to
be with engine movement or foot on throttle movement. All engine
and gearbox mountings are new and my thoughts are that a cable
will be better. Your thoughts please.

S3 SHOULD already be cable. The problem is within your pump. The
levers are connected by a spring, and yours is not set with the
correct tension. I sorted this on mine years ago, and still have
rod throttle. It's still fine. The casing that is screwed onto
the side is removable with care. Take a look at one on a bench
first, and see what you think.

Thanks for the reply. I should have said it has a 3 bearing
engine from an earlier date, the engine number is for a petrol
so I think it has some history of being messed around with. I
have a spare pump so will have a look to see if I can see what
you are telling me.

you can see the cable, anchor bracket and extra lever in this
picture just to the left of my fuel filter, all parts can still
be bought new except the anchor bracket

Thanks all. This symptom has not gone away even with a pump
change which made me think of cable being better. I will look at
the pump for Albert Ross suggestion as I need to remove
injectors to re torque the head after an engine rebuild so will
pull the pump off at the same time. If no better then I will go
the cable route. Nitemare your installation looks neat maybe I
should have put a 200 in mine.
