ok then, if it's just a sunny sunday toy then i see no point in
not fitting a V8 for the burble/growl  minimal miles
means very little expense
my two landrovers are my daily drivers and as such i have to be
able to feed them which is why i've got 200tdi's in both, the
only time it might hurt your wallet is on the odd weekend away
in it, i went to Wales last year with a bunch of lads from the
S2 Club we stopped at way too many garages which got boring for
me as all i was doing was waiting for them to top up and taking
the mickey rofl , i took a 20litre jerry can of mixed waste veg
oil and diesel along with having already filled my tank before
setting off, 400+ miles that weekend and after having poured my
can in the tank i still had 1/4 tank left when i got home (7.50
tyres, 3.54 diffs and overdrive) my bitsa sips at fuel as long
as i don't start hammering along
fuel costs would be well down if i drove a eurobox as a daily
but after taxing/insuring/buying etc' i reckon i'd be worse off
by a fair bit, plus i'm stretching my parking space as it is
with three Series of my own, a Disco and a couple of trailers
laying about

Great looking truck, must finish mine, its almost the same
configuration, 200tdi in galv chassis / parabolics etc. Got to
make a loom and brake lines but haven't had the inclination all
winter to touch it, perhaps I'll have renewed enthusiasm for it
this spring!

it's been lovely weather the last few days, i'm guessing you've
got it ready for the mot now then rofl
as for progress with this one, i've been out there again today,
seatbox off, fuel tank out along with the handbrake lever and
pivot linkage/mount and both propshafts
i'm also certain i've found out why it wouldn't roll without
pulling a halfshaft, the handbrake mechanism has seized up in
the drum, i'm guessing it's full of mud and other undesirable
crud, so apart from cleaning that up and sorting the release
bearing (early S2 box) i think we're in with a fighting chance
spent a fair bit of time with the angle grinder kicking up a
dust storm shifting mud/paint and rust, i now have it looking
like this

i still have two seams to weld up but apart from that it's all
looking nicely solid so far :o and i've started red oxiding
where i can ;D
gotta lift the gearbox out over the next day or two and find
somewhere to hide that so i can clean up around where it lives
but i'm so pleased to have been able to take that picture as
it's properly looking like i'm making progress
with luck there'll be more pictures soon ;D
p.s.
that mud on the floor is nothing compared to the pile i removed
before i started painting rofl

not much done today, had a mate and his nipper turn up who i
hadn't seen in a while
still i eventually managed to get the trans' brake drum off
after backing the adjuster off and beating the crap out of it
with a mallet, as it came free about a pound of dried mud fell
out of it , not surprised it was locked solid rofl
welded up the two splits whilst i could, then spent the rest of
the afternoon chatting with me mate while trying to shelter from
the showers
oh well, a little done is better than none

bugger putting bits together, took the gearbox out today and
borrowed a steam cleaner (proper one), steamed off as much of
the rest of the chassis as i could easily get at along with the
gearbox, bonnet, rad panel and seatbox, finally gave my 200tdi a
needed bath
[IMG]

then dried off the chassis and whacked on another coat of red
oxide and extended the coverage

more angle grinder and wire mop effort tomorrow, i should have
it oxided back to the tub and hopefully some of the first coat
of chassis black applied (best i get those chassis bushes in)

gone a lot better than i expected..

good progress today, slapped loads of chassis black around and
being as it was so warm i managed to get almost two coats on
:giddy: shackle bushes driven in and new shackles attached, and
then finished assembling my first swivel (forgot to buy new
locking tabs :banghead )
