Transfer box bearing.

Is it possible to change the bearing that sits behind the speedo
worm gear on the transfer box, whilst the gearbox is still in
the motor.
Or do I have to take the transfer box out and strip.

You can take the back of the transfer box off. Remove the
handbrake and undo the fixings holdign the speedo housing to the
main transfer case (drain the oil first).

Hi Lucy, thanks for your reply.
I've got that far, but not to sure how to get the bearing out of
the housing.
Do I knock the shaft from the front of the transfer box back and
will that force it out?

I think you will need to remove the box. I realy don't see how
you would remove the bearing from the output shaft with
everything else still attached.
You need to drift the output shaft rearwards to remove the
bearing race. Then you knock the output shaft forward to remove
front bearing. Do you have a workshop manual?

Yeah I have a manual.
I was just hoping not to take the gearbox out. The gearbox as
been in and out three times in less than a year. So was trying
to see if others have done it with the gearbox in situ.
I've been able this morning to remove the bearing with the
gearbox still in situ by tapping the front shaft back.
Cheers Andy...

I think I had visions of an LT95 in my head when I was writing
as that was a job I did recently on the 101.
I've got a transfer box kicking about the shed somewhere, I'll
have a look and remind myself how it's put together.
