starters and glow plug question.

Hi all, two questions, both relating to a 2.5td 19j engine in a
lwb series 3.
Firstly: Will a tdi starter work it. I know it fits as I have
fucked one that I borrowed but as it didn't work I don't know if
the throw etc is the same. I'm inclined to think it does but
wanna make sure before I do my scrapheap challenge bit again.
Secondly: glow plugs will I need a ballast resistor for them or
can I just wire them via a relay and a pushy button to make them
work? As it was a petrol before its not got the correct wiring
for diesel gubbins!

Hi Steve,
Not sure about the startermotor - a grown up will know.
The glowplugs will work without the resistor - but you do need a
very good solenoid (we use lawnmower starter ones... cheap and
work well) and good wiring - 6 mm2 at the min. And please make
the solenoid very close to the battery and push button operated.

Hi there on my 19j conversion my mate has wired the glow plugs
through the redundant starter solenoid( as the starter has a
built in solenoid) and the ballast resistor has been kept in the
loop for good measure. It All works very well.

have same engine in mine also :thumbs:
i have the glow plugs running from the ignition switch -via
relay
seperate switch for the pump
starter should fit i did borrow one while mine was broke - but
now have another from TD
