Leafers and Dogs

Hello,
As stated in other threads, bought myself a Series 1, 107" truck
recently, without approval. (She went ballistic - not because
I'd bought the Landy, but I got home 1 hour late for my meds!!)
Concession to my Domestic Manager (Mrs H), buying her (just
her?) a Labradover pup. (Not really a concession. I'm smitten
too!)
Point is, how do you carry a pup in a "bone shaker" without
putting her off for life. I know that the pup will want to be
with Mrs H or me, but the S1 is very noisy, bouncy, and open to
the elements / escape, now that the top is off.
Any advice on safety, restraint, environment for the pup
(Channi), would be welcome.

A shortish lead attached to a bit of the furniture, when its old
enough maybe ? Most dogs don't need it once they are old enough
not to be daft. Maybe start off with the tilt closed ? My
experience is that some dogs love the experience, others hate it
and no telling which till you try it. Current collie loathes LR,
chucks up every time he's in one and has to be captured before
he'll get in. Previous mutt would lie on the bench seat all day
if she thought there was chance of a drive. It was the easiest
way to keep track of her while working in the yard - just leave
the back door open and she'd jump in there and watch me work, an
Alsatian we had was the same.

Mine associates vehicles with long walks, so will get in any
vehicle with an open door.

Mine hates it. Too noisy and will run away if asked to get in. I
have taken to putting the dog in the front to allow them to have
their head out of the window. It does mean just the two of us in
the front though. After saying that, this is only when no other
vehicle is available.

My spaniel has been in our old S2A and now the S1 since we got
her, she sits on the middle seat & wears a harness with a lead
tied to the rear bulkhead. Loves it!

Our Beagles have always enjoyed being lashed to the grab-handles
on the rear cross-member. We've gone through twenty five dogs
this year alone.

My friends border collie will run a mile when I pick her up.
Mine will try and jump in with a jingle of the car keys. Loves
it!
Have to train her to love it while shes young I suppose.
Associate it to meaty treats maybe?

Branston, will make 6 to 10 attempts to jump on the bed, but
open Pickles' door and he will jump straight in and sit down on
top of the cubby box!
I bought some of the short leads that fit seat belt sockets,
these are in the back seat of the car and the in-law's cars as
well, but the one in Pickles is has been modified and bolted to
the bulkhead. This clips to a harness on Branston and he rides
with his head as close to the open vents as possible.
He has discovered that he can open the electric windows, in the
back of the car, so spends most of his time with his head out! I
haven't managed to teach him to close the windows when it starts
to rain though!

We carry our hound Marston ( Border collie ) in a dog cage in
the back bed.

Thanks folks. I think that until she's a little bigger, I'll
fabricate a box like Mr Pickles, and bolt it where the centre
seat should be, then pad it out. Nice pic of Branston, by the
way. We have one of those doggy seat belt things, so she'll be
secure.
