Parabolic springs too short?

I bought a set of parabolic springs as part of a job lot off
fleabay. I was told they were off a SWB 88 which was handy
because thats what mine is.
So after weeks and weeks of chassis prep today was the day for
the springs to be fitted. These are like new with very little
use.
I fitted them to the rear shackles first and there was no way
they would meet the front spring hanger. I took them off and
fitted the front first, put the shackles forward and they fit
but the shock absorber(Which was part of the same deal) would
not extend enough to reach the mounting points.
Do they need shackles on each end of the spring or is it another
seller that has seen me coming and thought "MUG"
The rear shackles are now pointing towards the front of the
chassis as opposed to the rear.

Sounds like they're fronts ones and you're putting them on the
back. The back ones are a fair bit longer

These are the longest. I havnt tried to fit the front ones yet
as i am still trying to find my knuckle that disapeared after
the chassis dropped on mi hand!!

Rocky Mountain parabolics come (or used to come) with an
instruction to 'pre load the springs with the weight of three
men' before tightening eye bolts and shackles. Shackles at both
ends is, frankly, a charmingly alarming idea! If your springs
are Britpart you should cut your losses now and weigh them
in-they are scrap.

What do they measure hole to hole in a staight line?

Not sure, I will measure them tomorrow. Like I said I bought
these as a job lot and everything else is SWB le gear so I must
be doing seething wrong?????

Just measured them. They are 44 and a half inches hole centre to
hole centre. This is fitted to the chassis.

Both of mine are stood in the back street if you need to run
your tape over them. Both fitted with paras.

but while you are on Mick, do you have a seat box and rear floor
or decent rear tub?
