I have had two electronic ignition systems and both gave
trouble. Best setup i've found is a TAC unit - keep the points
for switching and leave out the troublesome condensor. This also
allows you to fit a Sports coil which i think is worth it.
I had a TAC unit set up on an Essex V6 engine in a Scimitar and
got 32-34 mpg on long trips - which was excellent for those
engines. As for a landy i haven't got round to my resto. But
i'll be setting up the landy with TAC as i think it's given
better results - but one's got to get hold of decent points. To
do a fair comparison one needs to setup both on the same motor.
I reckon a sports coil gives better spark and that's probably
worth 1-2mpg.

Mine is absolutely rock stock (ignition that is) and on a run I
can get up to 24mpg with the wind behind me :smilewide:, would
generally expect 21-22. No overdrive at the moment but I do have
free wheeling hubs which probably help a little. (weber carb
pulling air through ex 3.5Efi air box instead of oil bath
filter) This would be about 50mph indicated on deestone extra
tractions (chunky)
The point I'm trying to make is, there may be other factors :/
