oilseal front transferbox

The oilseal on the transfer box was leaking. It was an old metal
one.
I've tried with screwdrivers to remove the old one but it's
verry stuck.
It's hard to reach because of the crossmember.
Has anybody tips or tricks?
Can I just remove the red part and do the removal on a bench?

Little question: I you refill the gearbox do you also refill the
transferbox?

Hi Dellie! Yes, you can take the carrier off of the front of the
housing. Just undo the six bolts and remove the seal on the
bench.
The gearbox and transfer box are filled seperately. The
fillerplug for the transferbox is at the rear, next to the
handbrakedrum. The filler plug for the gearbox is at the side of
the box, hidden behind the rubber grommet on the gearbox tunnel.

it would be worth checking the surface of the component that the
seal mates to as if it's worn/scored the new seal will not make
a great difference. It will soon start leaking again!! mine did
::)

You can buy SKF-speedy sleeve or use the cheaper methode of
taking the little spiral out and make it 10mm smaller.

Tell me more about this spiral thingy? I assume you move the
position of the seal so it runs on an undamaged section of the
flange?
