Can brake drums warp?

Good afternoon all
I am having a problem with 11" front brakes on my swb series 3
(1982MY so twin leading shoe 11" drums are standard).
I replaced my cheap "made to a slightly different radius" brake
shoes with nice new Mintex ones this morning.
All fine, but on replacing the drum retaining screw, the NSF
drum locked solid. Remove the screw, all good again. Refit the
wheel - locked solid.
It turned out that the pin that sits on the snail adjuster was
fouling the adjuster base at the backing plate. Refitted the
original cheap shoes expecting poor performance but no binding,
and I get I exactly the same thing, but without the pin fouling
the adjuster base - drum locks solid when the wheel nuts are
back on. With two wheel nuts to hold the wheel on (finger
tight), rotating the wheel shows a gap between the wheel nut and
the wheel that varies from 0 to 5mm as the wheel is rotated.
Is it possible for a brake drum to warp and cause this? (they
are cheap brake drums, nearer the £15 end of the scale than the
OEM priced ones). Or is it more likely that the shoes are
somehow cocked and pushing the drum off?

Shoes could be crooked if you haven't set the stops correctly
Drums could be warped ... Last se I got 10" I hadn't have
skimmed true before they could've used

Make certain the hub/drum mating faces are perfectly clean.
Also, if you have broken drum screws in the hub, remove them.
Use all the screw holes available for fitting with screw. Before
fully tightening, centralise the drum with a heavy soft copper
hammer. Then fit the wheel, making certain you torque the nuts
in a star fashion. Then adjust the shoes.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will have a look next weekend as
I'm away for work now.
I'm pretty sure that there are no broken screws or such in the
way, but will check.

Not any help with your problem but I found the same thing with
the pins being too long on a new set of mintex shoes. I filed a
bit off the pins until they were the same length as the old
ones.
