Insurance renewal time. Should I tell them about my
"modifications"

I'm with Adrian Flux. Now when I started the policy they wanted
lots of photos which I gave them. I had a truck cab on then.
Now it's due for renewal and it seems they want a set of photos
again.
And if they compare them with last year, they can't fail to
notice instead of a truck cab, I now have a hard top.
So should I declare this "modification"?
Personally I don't see it as an issue. It's all standard
Landrover parts, and it all just bolts together. That's one
unique thing about a leafer, what other vehicle could you
convert from a pickup truck to a van without major alterations?
And if I was insuring it for the first time this year, nobody
would bat an eyelid at it being a hard top.

I could be wrong, but I doubt very much that is the sort of
thing they're interested in knowing, tell them, provide the
photo's and let us all know if it specifically made any
difference. If they do make a fuss about it then it's only a
quotation you can go elsewhere and just insure it as a hardtop.
The insurance companies are mainly interested in things that
make a vehicle faster or more likely to get nicked, changes in
body style (as far as Land Rovers are concerned) don't really
fall into that bracket.
Edit - having said that...when I had my unmentionable boingy I
fitted a snorkel after the floods we had in Barnsley, when I
lived there. The cheeky sods demanded an extra £50 on the
premium just because of that. It wasn't a Land Rover specialist
mind. They got sacked.

Tell them.
The results of not telling them could spell disaster if you need
to make a claim and they decide to void the insurance because
you didn't tell them.

I would tell them / I did actually too.
Mine is down as a TC with AF, but they're aware I have / may fit
the hard top / or the TC if needed and that she spends a lot of
time either topless or with tilt on.
Valuation pics for last three years have been with tilt /
topless with the HT roof parts in the background.
The OD, 235's, mil roll bar and LPG down as modifications.
If they can, the bastards will screw you given the slightest
chance.

I would tell them too. They will pull you apart if you don't and
need to make a claim, always best to be on the safe side.

I declared my roof rack, overdrive. Galv chassis, and get
this.... an alternator conversion.... mainly because it's
wiring, and if there's a wiring fire, they know it's been
modified BEFORE it releases it's smoke. Over the top? Probably,
but with insurance companies, you can never give them enough
info.

When I originally insured her in 2007 with Lancaster I think, I
could not find a tc option, so chose the 3 door option online
(okay tc has two door and a rear window). When the docs arrived
I queried the 3 door option over the phone and was advised if I
didn't cancel the insurance they would :gay: as it was speshul
i.e. more of a commercial than the 3 or 5 door land rover
options :wanker:
Did have another similar conversation with another group of
insurance :wanker:

Best to tell them everything...... ;-) If you ever have the
misfortune not just to have an accident or have your motor
stolen, but to paralyze someone as a result of an accident you
might be glad the Insurance is all above board when the 'victim'
comes after you for compensation....

I'd phone them and ask, it's not really a "modification" as
there is usually no record of what it left the factory with,
simply say it is now a hardtop not a truck cab. Who knows - it
could have been built a hard top and changed to a truck cab!

I'd tell them too. I tell my insurance company everything I do
to the truck that makes it different, most of the time (in my
case every time) they ain't bothered and it don't make any
difference to the policy but by telling them, I always put it in
an email or in writing too, it means it's on file as they should
keep all correspondence (I keep copies too) and if in the future
something happens and the insurance try to worm their way out of
paying for something or the likes because of a 'modification'
you can then say well it should be on file that I told you and
you said it didn't affect the policy and you can then wave your
copy at them and hopefully that's them fucked and the money is
yours!
