Wonky Shaft...

... on the gearbox.
Got the series gearbox (suffix D) out to replace the clutch,
noticed the input shaft is a little lose. If held in the right
place and turned the sound of knackered bearings is evident.
Long story short its a bit buggered, the rest of the box is fine
however. Major fix? I'am tempted to send it to transmission folk
and get it fixed, however I would like a rough idea of what
could be wrong with it and an idea of the cost to fix - any
advise?

if its just the input bearing its not a big job to fix and only
intails taking the front off the box

the bearing is available from bearing suppliers the hardest one
to source is the rear layshaft one i got FAG bearings for mine
without a problem and at a good price 40 quid for a complete
set.
input bearing is just one but check the one in the shaft once
its apart where it splits land ranger proberbly good to supply
this one.

I had the same symptom, input shaft loose and wobbley at one
time and found the input bearing housing was worn as well as a
dodgy bearing. Replaced bearing and used loctite to help the
bearing stay tight in the housing and it was succesful. been
good for a couple of years now.
