2.25 diesel/petrol rear silencer

Hi all
I read somewhere that a 2.25 diesel silencer box is less
restrictive than its 2.25 petrol counterpart is there any truth
in his?
I ask because I have a 200di conversion which has the 2.25
diesel manifold and downpipe coupled with the original 2.25
petrol silencer that was on before the transplant. I don't want
to replace to a larger bore as that means replacing manifold and
buying a custom made exhaust andit is only the silencer that is
ready for replacement shortly. I think a larger bore is probably
not necessary as it is non turbo but it is a 2.5 and the system
is 2.25. So I thought just a more free flowing silencer might
let some extra gas out.
Will a 2.25 petrol silencer be restricting the exhaust gasses?
Sorry, don't know much about gas flw and all tha stuff.

It's utter bollocks. Same part number from the usual suspects.
Unless of course 50 years ago there WERE different parts, and
someone at Solihull thought "fuck it" and made one type only, to
keep costs down.

Thanks mate, I half suspected that would be the case.
I will cobble something together then or just leave well alone
and pop another standard series silencer on when it finally rots
through.
It cant be restricted that much getting 35mpg on a decent run.

The 2.5TD (19J) silencer was the only lower restriction silencer
though the 2.5 N/A silencers are a bit better than the 2.25
ones.
The increased restriction will make your turbo run a bit hotter
(and maybe spin faster?) which will probubly shorten its live
eventually (LR obveously thought it worth reengineering it) but
how significant this effect really is who knows.
I'd replace it with a TD size setup but I'd probubly let it fall
off first. I am a fan of the ACR silencer though, my 2.25d
definately goes better and uses slightly less fuel without the
silencer (I ran it for a month once when it suddenly
disintigrated) - the ACR box offered the same performance gain
but without most of the extra noise (though being a glass pack
silencer I am wondering if its slowly getting louder - probubly
better to replace the mild steel version every decade or so than
think the SS one will last forever, the mild version is quite
thick so should last at least twice as long as the cheep crap
pattern ones narrowing the extra expence (which doesn't exist
when offset on the fuel), I also like the fact the tailpipe
points streight out the side like they should not curved back at
45deg.

Also worth a look at the complete 2.6 6 cylinder system for a
LWB, it is a larger bore (same as TDI), you just need to mod the
downpipe.
Reasonably priced from Paddocks.

True, but that relies on a rear tank and hanger brackets welded
to the chassis to suit. I'm currently looking at 'chain
converting' a 19J for my 109, and clocking the turbo to suit a 4
bolt 2286D exhaust routing, keeping it high. It depends on
whether I get a cheap engine off eBay.
