Daft Question - U Bolt Nut

I've had a brain fade...anyone recall the nut size on the spring
U Bolts, as in what size socket I need to use on it?
11/16 (or maybe 5/8) rings a bell but I can't remember as it's
ages since I last did owt to em. It's just so it saves me
dragging loads of sockets and shit over to the truck to check
the tightness of the U bolts (truck ain't outside me hoose),
easier just to take what I need. Just being a lazy cunt really I
guess...

Cheers Noel - I knew the thread size, it was the actual size of
the socket that fits on the nut I couldn't remember. I've a
rough idea so I'll just bung a couple of sockets in my pocket
when I head over to it.

Turns out the bloody things on mine are metric! That's 'em
nipped up now though.

A 7/16 BSF socket (more commonly marked 3/8 Whitworth (BSW) but
quite often marked with both) would be the correct size. The
closest French would be 18mm, a gnats cock under at 0.709"
across the flats - the 7/16 BSF-3/8 BSW is 0.710". A 19mm would
go on too but at 0.748" across the flats would be a bit loose.

Ta Noel, I'd seen them described as 7/16 BSF and always just
presumed it was the thread size?
I never thought of trying a Whitworth socket on it to be honest.
However I reckon these u bolts are definitely metric though as
the 19mm is a perfect fit, definitely not loose (nut not covered
in shite so that wont tighten the fit of the socket) and it's
quite a coarse thread. The truck is '83 and is mostly metric so
maybe the U bolts changed over too?
