Diesel breaths a bit when worked - crank case vent into air
filter?

Hi all,
Just cleaned the engine in my 2.25 diesel I bought last month.
Engine runs fine and pulls. I think it breaths a little, that
doesn't concern me but wondered if venting into the air filter
is advisable?
Done a search and not found a lot other than ensuring it doesnt
run on and self destruct! Thinking just a small 15mm pipe to
give negative crankcase pressure?.
Or do I live with in built bulkhead and bonnet oiling?

Post 1967 engines had a hose from the top breather into the back
of the inlet manifold. I have some of these somewhere.....
trouble is, WHERE!!!???? If I find one, do you want one?

I piped mine into the top of the oil bath filter. Mine also
breaths a little.

They can breath when worn a bit or as someone on here pointed
out the head gasket can blow by the push rod tubes. I think this
can happen because people do not remove the injectors when re
-torquing the head after replacement and only torque up the
other positions. My late series 3 pipes into the inlet manifold.

Yeah, I normally mention the pushrod tube business. However, I
was on my night off, so couldn't say that on here.

Albert Ross. You mention on another head post that you re-torque
after warm up. Do you do this on diesels as well ? Taking
injectors out to re-torque is a bit more work, I intended to do
mine at 500 miles now the rebuild is finished but now I have
doubts about leaving it that long.

Most certainly, if I use the copper gasket. More work, but if
you have the tools out, do it then, at least you're not halfway
up a mountain wishing you had retorqued after warm up.......

Thanks for that Albert I have made the effort to re-torque after
warm up. Did not take long at all.

I wasn't too clear on this one I feel. You will need the correct
breather (and possibly rocker cover to suit), a hose, and an
inlet manifold. I have them, but not available immediately. I
will possibly get an opportunity to look this coming weekend, I
have being going bonkers on overtime this week, and it leaves
little time for tinkering, and I have no light in my garage.
