Re: Aryette - 1983 S3 88"

Well I'd better update this :smile1 last saturday II'd got
everything working ready to go for MOT, bar a leaking swivel on
the drivers side. Took her for a spin of up the road & back, and
noticed the brakes didn't feel very good. Reversed & tried
again, stopping in reverse was a Lot better = front brakes
weren't right.
So jacked her up & removed the drums, sure enoguh 3 ou of the 4
cylinders were seized, and found this out at exactly 1:05pm!
:banghead
So monday night my dad collected some replacements for me :D
Fitting went as smoothly as would expect, bar having to weld one
of the adjusters to the bolt that holds it on as was spinning on
it.
..and as anyone who's seen my posts on the tech forum will know
I've been having fun with the electrics on Aryette!
After bleeding the brakes enough to get a hint of pedal I
decided to test them, which lead to my dad asking 'why do the
sidelights come on with the brakes?' :WTF
yeah, turns out the drivers rear bulb was shorting across both
filaments (I found this out AFTER I'd checked every earth, and
dismantled the dash! :2mo5pow: )
all sorted, then discovered I needed two new front sidelight
units :smiley-furious:
Soo tonight I picked a pair of wipac new ones up, and fitted
them. Which meant it was time to take her over to the garage
that does my MOT (& any work I've missed/can't do/cba to do
:girly:)
Just before setting off:

And after a pleasant drive, despite no speedo (new cable needed
I think) & not being able to pen the drivers door window (seized
from being sat) I arrived
And parked her next to a VERY familiar truck:

:smilewide:
Yep thats Ary, my beloved 109" (shows why they are both called
Ary & Aryette!) who is in for quite a bit of welding for her MOT
:-?
must say, even that brief drive reminded me why I LOVE Series
Landies soo much :smilewide:
It's been a fair bit of work (not helped by this bloody buggered
shoulder)
But worth it :smilewide:

Firstly the good news:

>rock<
However...
Well, after the emergency run to nottingham last night after the
clusterfuck that was national rail, it appears Aryette isn't
that well after all.
Noticed some diesel had dripped out while I found Vicki at
Nottingham station, couldn't look at her then soo decided to
limp her home. Coming home she cut out once on the A46 but came
back to life. Then the same again coming through Oadby, but
again came back.
Today decided to have a look, had to swap her & Zebby round, as
I drove Aryette up the road she stuttered once, and cut out as I
turned round. Cambe back & got onto the drive.
Had a look and saw there was diesel coming out of the blanked
off spare pipe off the injector pump (its one off a 19j TD)
Took teh banjo bolt out & re-plugged that pipe end.
However now she won't start at all (flattened the battery
trying)
She'll catch on occasion, turn over but then die.
I think its something on the fuel system, going to swap the lift
pump for a spare I've got (while the battery charges) & will
see.
Does anybody have any suggestions? :banghead

If diesel can get out air can get in, need to sort out the weeps
then bleed it through, btw when was the diesel filter last
done??

Thanks for the advice hun, finally got her working, turned out
the fuel leak was hiding a issue with teh wiring to the fuel
solenoid switch, re-wired it & bingo.
However this has finished off the already dubious battery
:banghead
And of course she was nose-onto the drive, so jump-starting had
to be done via two sets of jumpleads wagfinger
However got her up & running, soo turned her round.
...which naturally meant I had to go greenlaning :smilewide:
just drove my favourite local lane (all in 2wd, no damage at
all)
And when I stopped to check the voltage using a multimeter
obviously took a pic
HTML https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xap1/t31.0-8/p180x540/10514255_10152237815176984_7639834158394167954_o.jpg
bit further shows I've not had a Landy on the road much
recently, as its got very overgrown (will be re-fitting my
roofrack & setting the bushwires up to clear this a bit over the
coming weeks!)
HTML https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/t31.0-8/p180x540/10271404_10152237815171984_3109015181798673461_o.jpg
and further stopped to take a phonecall from my girlfriend (she
was heading home on the train)
...so another pic :girly:
HTML https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/t31.0-8/p180x540/1602186_10152237815166984_4584274150009052061_o.jpg
Turns out on tick-over the voltage sits at 12.8ish, then raises
to 3.5-14v when revved.
Ordered a battery reconditioner to sort out one of the bigger
ones I have spare, before I order a new one for her :)

Always jealous of people who have lanes so easily accessible to
where they live.
Nothing very near to me.

lol within 30mins driving of my place theres about 1/2 a days
laning, nothing more taxing than some nice sized fords :)
This is quite a well known one (Kev of this parish knows it,
Gartree Road) and its split into three seperate lanes, which
lead into at least one other (with another actually close to
where these were taken)
I am indeed lucky (I drive this bit on average once or twice a
week when using a Landy as a daily!)
