Fuel Additive

Hi Folks
Time to put more petrol in Misty. Whats the best additive have
been using Redex stuff. Misty will be running on lpg most of the
time. Also is super unleaded any better as its close to the old
4 star rating of 97 octane Cant afford an unleaded head either.

Super unleaded (IIRC) doesn't have ethanol in it so will be
better for your fuel system (and stores better). As for
additives, there are a few marine ones out there that are pretty
good or find one of the ones that adds the "lead" back in ;)
Redex is pretty much the standard one in these parts.

Depending upon where you buy Reddex, it ranges in price from
just over £3 to almost £7 from my experience. Morrisons usually
sells it for lowest price round here.
Why not just forget the additives, save the cash and use it on a
replacement head / refurb?
Once my stock runs out I think that's what I'll be doing.

Before I fitted an unleaded head to wsl. I was recommend to use
Castrols additive by a classic car tuner. Its not the cheapest
but I had no problems. It's got a handy measuring guides well.

At each fill up I normally pour in some marvel mystery oil in
regular unleaded petrol. Never the slightest issue.

Shell V-Power is the best petrol on sale.As good as any additive
at cleaning up your fuel system I've found. I use it in my
Nortons where possible.
Castrol Valvemaster Plus is the single most nicked item in the
shop.Number two is Castrol Valvemaster,both lead replacement but
one's got an octane boost too. I use it in my Nortons.

My local garage is a TVR specialist and also used to work with
Rover on special projects. The owner saw me putting additive in
and stomped over to say I was wasting my time. His line was that
unless the engine was regularly thrashed at max revs the
likelihood of measurable valve recession was about Nil. Said
they had done tests on rally cars and even on them they had been
pressed to find any measurable difference. His parting shot was
" Bin the additives, the engine will outlast you."

When 4 star stopped many years ago and I had my GT6 I was told
drive it on unleaded. Chances are the valve seats will hardly
wear. The advice was right. Low miles meant the advice was the
same as the above post.

Hi All
A varied opinion and all thoughts welcome. Think i will try the
super unleaded for the octane rating and stick with redex lead
replacement. See how we go.
