MOT-Europe?

With Opheers and Yves do coming up soon I an wondering if I need
a current MOT? My 1954 series 1 now doesnt need one over here so
I have let it run out. Is it a requirement for Euro travel?
Also
Can any one tell me what this green card thing is about for
insurance purposes too? If your insurance states that you are
covered for european travel then is this one or is it something
different? :confused:

I don't think you need anything special to travel around Europe
regarding MOT - the countries should mutually accept their
standards, so the UK standards should be as good in Germany or
France as they are in the UK. I'm sure this is valid for
Switzerland as well.
The green card is an internationally valid proof of liability
insurance, i.e. the damage potentially done to others using your
vehicle. Just a piece of paper, but very important.

Hi Steve,
For travel outside the UK, your vehicle needs to be legally on
the road : just like the UK.
In general, the driver must have when stopped :
1 - Original Logbook (in his/her name - if not : letter to
authorise use)
2 - Valid proof of roadworthyness : MOT certificate / print
(valid until return in the UK)
3 - Int. acknowledge proof of insurance : the Green Card.
Everybody knows them & legal requirement.
4 - ID Card / Passport
Per Country you may need additional items.

As your S1 is now MoT exempt you don't need an MoT Steve - just
like anyone from say Jersey doesn't need one either. Otherwise
as above. Perhaps print out the original letter confirming the
changes, it should be on here somewhere. Your insurer should be
able to give you a Green Card.

Don't forget, depending on the countries-
First aid kit
Warning triangle
Fire extinguisher
Reflective Jacket/waistcoat
spare bulbs
GB plate/sticker
headlight converters
And a breathalyser for France (although compulsory I don't think
they can't fine you for not having one :-?)

A big help thanks, I will get onto my insurance and then chill
out.
(Thats after fitting two UJs, and putting a filling plug in my
rear diff changing the seals & oils etc etc).

And remember if you have a 107 or 109 station wagon you cannot
drive outside of the UK without a tachograph fitted and
complying with all the sames rules as a bus or coach, i.e.
90km/h maximum speed (unless you have a Vitesse 100 or Tempo 100
certificate that allows 100km/h), EU drivers hours rules etc.
The exemption for vehicles with 9-16 passenger seats (10-17
seats total) ONLY applies to the UK for private use. To be
frank, if your V5C doesn't declare the number of seats on it the
simplest thing to do is remove a 3 seater bench from the rear.

Hi as mentioned providing that your vehicle is legal to drive on
the roads of the United Kingdom where it is registered it is
legal to drive through the rest of Europe and you don't need a
green card at all only for entering non EU countries such as
Ukraine Russia etc, all you need is proof of insurance and half
the time you could give the coppers a clip of the sun and they
would not notice the difference (not advised) , as for equipment
you have to have a hi viz for every person in the car (the
French brought that in to catch people) the rest has been
mentioned but don't forget a tool kit
