Brake pipe connections - size?

Front TLS brakes from a 1982 Series 3 - I need to get some brake
pipes made up so what threads do I ask for on the connectors
that screw into the brake cylinders and into the flexible hose
at the other end?

it'll be either M10x1mm or 3/8 UNF

If you've got a copy of the factory workshop manual handy
there's a whole bit about how to ID if yer pipe fittings are
metric or UNF. I think 1982 might be metric but who knows what
might of ended up being fitted over the years?

Yes, it's a fucking nightmare and to complicate matters the
front axle assembly is made up from at least 4 different motors
of differing series and age and the rest of the braking system
is anyone's guess.
I suppose I'll have to take a cylinder and let whoever's making
the new pipe screw fittings in until we find one that fits.

Yes that'll work for that particular cylinder but what if the
cylinders have been mixed and matched?

get some unf fittings and metric fittings and try them to see
which fit, only cost pence each then when you go to get the
pipes made up give them the appropriate fittings to use .If your
passing though Holmfirth tomorrow i'll be around and have a few
spare for free :smilewide:

With brake fittings, the nuts usually have 'notches' cut in them
if they are metric, and none if they are imperial (usually UNF)
fittings. This is certainly the case with LR brake pipes, and
indeed the manuals state it somewhere (or parts catalogues, or
something).
In all other applications, notches usually denote a left-handed
thread...

The Green Bible (for the want of a better word) does show how to
id the fittings so you can tell if they are metric or not.
