As I have mentioned in the welcome thread, I have a Series 3 in
my possession that belongs to a good friend of mine.
Unfortunately his poor health has prevented him from finishing
his project. This is where I come in, offering to finish the
job. Have bitten off more than I can chew though?
Jude is loaded onto a recovery truck for the short journey to my
abode.

Where do I start?

I'll keep you posted.

Looks like a good starting point, footwells don't look to shabby
either..
Looks like it is crying out for a 200 Tdi :rolleye0012:

Start with the chassis and bulkhead make sure you have a good
solid framework that you are happy won't need to see the vehicle
dismantled every couple of years to fettle bit that could have
all been done in on go. Then the engine, the rest isn't to
hard to get at after that.

If it`s half as good as it looks, what a beauty.(She said). I
totally agree with 200 Tdi. I can assure you from personal
experience, you WON`T regret it.I fitted mine without the
intercooler , BLOODY MARVELOUS! Hope you have fun doing it and
much joy driving it.
Regards Andrew.

Yeah, she's straight enough. Certainly some work on the chassis
needed. Footwells need some patching but not too bad.
Just out of interest Mandy, how does the 200 perform without the
intercooler? Are you running the series gearbox? I am concerned
that the power from the 200 may destroy the box?
Also, can I ask what your solution was for the exhaust?
Obviously the old pipe is too narrow, so I was thinking a 90
exhaust as a starting point but being prepared to modify as
required?
- Sorry Parksy should have said - the 200 lump is ready and
waiting to go in!!

Tomorrow unfortunately will be spent lavishing time and
attention on another Land Rover (a type of which I believe it is
forbidden to mention on this forum) from my fleet in preparation
for a looming MoT.
Hope we get some dry spells, there is some welding to be done.
On the bright side, it'll help me get my eye in for the
weld-fest on the series!!

Ayup bud,
The performance with the 200 with no intercooler is much more
than adequate.I run a S3 box with o/d . As long as I keep aware
of not using the extra torque and keep ploughing on like it is
happy to do I forsee few problems.
I used to pull 4 ton compressors up on to quarry tops in S2a in
the early 70s.By being careful and listening to what is going on
under me there were no problems.
The exhaust is tweaked defender/Dico stuff has 2 boxes and comes
out the proper side.
Mandy is soon being treated to RR diffs as it will easily stand
it.
Regards
Andrew

Thanks for the info. I know my mate drives with mechanical
sympathy in mind so going by what you say we should be okay with
it.
We too have RR diffs waiting to go in at the appropriate time in
the rebuild. Really looking forward to getting going on it
properly. Still lots of welding to do on the 'other' vehicle!
Thanks again for your help.
