       Clutch master cylinder

My clutch master cylinder is insistent on pissing fluid down the
clutch pedal so diagnosis knackered. I have a feeling I know
what the responses are going to be but do I bite the bullet and
buy genuine (£83 from lr series :o), or go for TRW or Delphi.
Definitely avoiding blue box bits as I only want to fit a new
'un once. Opinions valued. Cheers gents and ladies.

Buy a genuine rebuild kit from Dunsfold for about £8ish, as long
as the cylinder bore looks OK you will be fine, fairly simple
job to rebuild just one circip, if it has been in recent use i
think it will be OK just the old rubber seals will have failed.

Go with the rebuild kit. Top tip use a high step 1/2" ring
spanner to hold the cylinder side of the bottom flange bolt as
they are awkward to get at. On assembly wind a bit of tape
around the bolt head to hold the bolt in the spanner and feed it
in to the hole you can then pop the washer and nut on, tighten
       then wriggle the spanner off.

Yep, much better to use the original cylinder rather than use a
new one made of cheese or splashing out for a 'genuine' one.
If the bore is marked at all, you can hone it.
You can buy honing tools which consist of spring loaded grit
stones used in a drill, but I use a length of dowel with a slot
in the end and two strips of carborundum paper or emery cloth
back to back in the slot:

A blow out with the airline to finish and a swill out with brake
fluid and it's ready for new seals
       Cheers,
       Robin.

I saw this, this morning and couldn't be arsed didn't have time
to comment ;D but good to hear that the bore isn't fecked and
you are able to reseal it.
What I was going to say is; if you had bought a 'genuine' master
cyl, in a green oval liveried box surley it would have been a
TRW, Delphi or Lockheed one anyway and essentially you'd have
been paying the extra for the box???
