       Engine number

my engine number is 99501219 R or 99501229 B. How do I know if
       its a 2.25 3 bearing or a 5 bearing.
I can take pictures if there is a visual diffrence. I know it is
not original to my SII, I looked in my specification guide from
James Taylor but I didn't found it.

The block of a 5mb engine has webbed sides in the shape of
       triangles.

That number doesn't relate to a LR engine. I reckon you've read
it wrong or it has become slightly illegible. Do you have a
       Hi-Res pic of the number?

When you are sure of your number look on Glencoyne web page. The
man is a mine of information and lists most numbers and their
origins if from a Land Rover.

       I think that 995 might be a military 5MB engine? It's a bit of a
guess as I don't know for sure but my reasoning is this...
According to the Green Bible the 5MB petrol engine was allocated
numbers from 36100001A & 99100001A depending on where it was
built. My Lightweight has a 5MB engine starting with engine
number 365 which is not part of the normal allocation and after
some poking around and asking questions it turns out that
(some/all?) engines made to military spec had their own number
allocation (think it was originally Turners that told me many
years ago and has since cropped up on the EMLRA forum too) and
       365 was for a 12v, 8:1 comp 5MB engine and so I'm wondering if
995 is the military equivalent of the 991 engine?
I used to have a list somewhere with all the numbers on,
including the military ones but I can't find it at the moment.

This is what the Glencoyne website has to say.
I would love to have a V8, I allready have the fuel consumption
but I do know how to count to 4.
