Tdi into LHD Lightweight

Not being a Tdi expert I'm going to ask what are probably silly
questions however I'd like to get straight in my mind if
sticking a Tdi in the lightweight is a good idea. From having a
peruse with Google I've sussed a 200Tdi from a Disco or any
300Tdi won't fit in a left hooker as the turbo/manifolds foul
the steering gear, however the Defender 200Tdi will fit with the
turbo/manifold being higher up. With Defender lumps being
somewhat more difficult to source is the best solution to bolt a
Defender 200Tdi manifold and turbo onto a Disco Tdi?

There were a couple of Deafener manifolds on ebay last night,
and in answer to your question they are a straight bolt on fit.
You'll have to do some creative dipstick bending though, and
source the appropriate oil feed and drain pipes.

I was talking to a chap with a 200tdi in his series 1 and we had
a chat about turbo fitting issues and he said a 300 tdi manifold
(easier to get) fits straight on and the turbo then doesn't foul
the chassis etc (don't know if this helps with lhd etc)
Cheers

With a LHD (or a 6 pot) you need the defender fanimold.
Whilst looking at manifolds i did notice a 300Tdi manifold looks
very much like defender one but upside down :rolleye0012: not
sure how possible it would be to make some sort of conversion
plate?

I say a conversion plate because the stud holes do not line up
as they are upside down, some seem to have square flanges on the
outside 2 ports so you could re drill these but the centre 2
ports are on a flange with 3 holes so would need some cunning
stunt to make them fit.
either that or chop off the flanges and weld them back on upsdie
down, but its cast so not sure it would be easy?
the other issue is (I think) you need to do the same to the
inlet manifold or find one that fits.
One option I am looking in to is fabricating a bespoke exhaust
manifold similar to the defender one for my ex 6 pot using weld
together handrail sections, do a search on DN40 handrail weld in
bends.

I'll see the chap with a 200tdi with 300 manifolds hopefully
within the next two weeks so I'll find out and try to get some
pics.

This project is now moving on a bit, I scored this off eBay:

And am collecting an L-plate Discgay to rob the engine out of
tomorrow. :giddy:

Discgay duly collected, was nice and cheap as listed as a
non-runner. Had a peer, saw the wire had fallen off the stop
solenoid, voila. Runs like a sewing machine. 8)
Aforementioned Tdi looks like this:
[URL=
HTML http://s1031.photobucket.com/user/leyland510/media/40AJ35/13L-Tdi-1_zpse34ed708.jpg.html]

As Tdis go it's very smooth and quiet but the engine is a very
low number beginning 13L, so from an early auto I'm assuming.
This Discgay is manual and the engine number is a 12L on the
V5C, presumably it's had all it needed moved across to mate to
the manual box. Is there anything else different about auto
engines?
