It just needs the brakes adjusting, it'll be a ten minute job...

Yeah, right...
I drove over to see Steve (Quattrofoto) today to have another
tinker with my brakes. First job was to replace an adjuster on
the NSR that I've known to be worn for some time. Whilst taking
the drum off Steve says to me "It's not coming off easily. I
reckon your drum's full of mud".
Actually it was full of iron filings.

Zero brake linings and metal-to-metal contact for quite some
time by the looks of things.

So the job was buggered but a few calls around the OLLR network
and I have a set of drums and shoes to fit tomorrow, thanks to
Luke and Hippydave.
Cheers, chaps. IFL OLLR ;D

Not exactly, Jim. I got all the parts from Luke but the drums or
on a kind of loan and Hippy's drums will be going to Luke at
some point.

How was it for stopping with metal to metal, better than or
equal to shit brake shoes???
The one time I lost my linings my 88" nearly set on fire :-?

It didn't make any horrific noises. Ask Hippydave - he had a
ride in it the other week and he'll tell you the same. It didn't
stop too well but then the front shoes were slathered in oil on
one side and brake fluid on the other so all things considered
it didn't do too badly.
I'm considering coating the new shoes in grease before I fit
them in order to increase their service life. Anything to cut
down on that pesky friction is bound to make them last longer.
;D

That will be why they wouldnt adjust up on the snail cam then,
And as Dave said there were no signs or noises to indicate that
they were metal on metal and it did come a stop when pressed :o

You're still alive then?
I was a bit shocked when I saw that drum come off, it's a while
since I saw brakes that bad!
We're off to spend the day sat in a traffic jam tomorrow Dave,
not sure what time we'll get back, if you're stuck I might be
ablr to help you during the week after work.
