Hello Folks,
There's been some more progress recently, mainly the bulkhead is
on and all the front end wiring fitted to it.
we've finished the bulkhead some self adhesive soundproofing.

we've (or rather dad) has adapted the air filter off a disco and
the carrier of the oil bath air filter, to make a slightly more
usable system.

also we've started on the bodywork.
the bonnet has had some major work done to it.
the frame has been removed from the skin, had the rot cut out and
new pieces welded in.
we then sand blasted, painted it and give it a coating of stone
chip, likewise the skin has had all the oxidation were the skin
meets the frame the same treatment.
the bonnet is now riveted back together and has several coats of
primer.

I think you have jumped well ahead of me now with you build
How did you get on Riveting the bonnet back together with the
solid rivets is it easy enough to do?

Hello Folk, its been awhile i know, however we have been
pressing on.
we`ve now got the bonnet painted although we think it need
building up with a few more coats, the wings done as well but
again the same they will need building up.
weve got the vent seals stuck in today, all I need to do now is
find out which handles are the correct type ? also we`ve got the
windscreen fitted and found out that neither the screen or the
top of the bulkhead are level so theres a 1/4" on the driver
also the screen is sat on a slant to the bulkhead ?
and I know its proberly been asked before but why is she leaning
to the drivers side ? and no im not sat in it nor am i fat ;D
Espacekiller ( I keep forgeting your proper name mate? ), the
riveting itself is fairly easy, the hardest balancing the
bonnet, because we put the rivet snap in a small machine vice
facing upwards.
So the bonnet was upside down balanced on the rivet head itself,
this ment two things one we could get easier swing with the
hammer and because we were riveting on to something soild the
rivets are much tighter.
as said the riveting itself is not difficult ( please bear in
mind this comes from a bloke who does boilerwork for a job ) as
with what I`ll call proper riveting its all in prep and having
everything to hand.
All the best Chris
P.s piccys tomorrow !!
P.s again I`ve brought a overdrive and a pair free wheeling
hubs, just thought you enought to know

...if she's sitting down towards the driver's side you may well
have the front springs fitted to the wrong sides....they're
handed (worth checking as it's all too easy to fit 'em the wrong
way) :-?

Hi Hairyvike, the front springs didn't have any markings to show
left from right, and also why would that effect the back end
because she's an inch lower there as well ?

...it'll affect front and back.....a similar effect can be had
by using petrol springs with a 200tdi lump.....ask me how I know
:haha:

Hello Chris,
Excellent work on both the Land Rover restoration and write up.
 I'm finding this a big inspiration to starting work on
the '61 series II, I've just bought. One of the first things
I've got to work on is the doors. Do you have any advice of how
to de-skin (and then reinstal once repaired) the panels from
their rusty metal frame please?
All the best

Hello Rambler, thank you for the comments. I'll be honest with
you, I haven't got round to the doors properly yet. However in
my experience you won't be able to fold the flanges and then
fold them back again as aluminium work hardens. The best option
is to get a replacement pair of skins, other than that new
doors. Afraid I can't be much more help. Chris
