       Hello folks,
I've got the gearbox stripped and cleaned, whoever put it
together last time loved their instant gasket or as between the
bellhousing and the gearbox casing, not putting gasket's on at
all :WTF also the previous owner clearly didnt like oil as
there wasnt any in the main gearbox casing :banghead
So I need both front and rear layshaft bearings and a gasket set

This locating peg was snapped and the thrust washer that goes
against the splines was on the wrong side of the distance piece
, so it's assembled wrong at some point in it's life :WTF
       scary
Getting the rest of me bit's tomorrow so I can start the
       rebuild.

Well today, been fun, interesting or down right bloody weird,
depends on your point of view. It seem I've got a series 3 main
       gear cluster with a 1st & 2nd syncro in a 2a main casing.
in other words a full syncro box weyhey ;D, might sound daft to
some of you guys but it took some figuring out for me. so my
brain is totally fried at the mo.

Hey up, the polythene is just there to protect the springs
whilst the rest of the vehicle is restored. Im thinking about
using denso tape as well since my old man told me about it,
       sounds like a good idea.
Has anyone else done this if so how did it work?
       [/quote]
I can't see any point in wrapping your springs as they look to
be parabolics. With ordinary springs I guess there's an
advantage in wrapping them to keep mud, water and grit out as it
will abrade the leaves but with parabolics the leaves are
separated by polyurethane blocks so they can't rub against each
       other anyway.

Well looking forward to another long weekend ;D, hopefully I can
have my gearbox back togther, the rear layshaft bearing was
proving to be a bugger to fit ?! surely theres only one way fit
       a roller bearing.
       but anyway it should fun.

Right then, a bit of a update here.
The gearbox is finished and in along with the 200tdi temporarily
so can the engine fitted and tacked on. then the engine will be
out again to fully weld the mount's and send the flywheel casing
away to glencoyne engineering to be modified.

       Hi Chris
Great job and it is coming along nicely.
As an aside I noticed your chassis bushes on the rear of the
       front springs.
I am in the process of replacing mine and yours look very
       different to the standard ones.
I am assuming they poly bushes of some sort.
What are they? and where did you get them from etc?
       Thanking you in anticipation
       Cheers
       Alan
