2.25L petrol Distributor

My distributor is apparently worn. SIII SWB , 2.25L , Should I
replace it with a pointless ign or stick with the points? Any
recommendations on what Distributor to buy as there are a few to
choose from. Seems the replacement one with points is the most
expensive on eeeebay but i may not have been looking in the
right place.

SimonBBC electronic every time I'd say. Running several, big
improvement over points.

Thanks for the receommendation and link, NoelC.
Gone ahead and ordered one this afternoon.
I suppose I should replace plugs, leads and condensor at the
same time, although new ones were fitted by the previous owner
of my 88 and they've probably only done a few hundred miles from
new. God knows what quality they are, though.

G, as the dizzy is electronic there is no condensor, another
bonus. Leads and plugs would be a good idea, I've used Bosch
super 4 plugs for years and have nothing but praise for them,
available half the retail price here :

No gap to set either.
Donk, you should notice things get better as soon as you fit it,
I reckon electronic ignition is the first and arguably best
improvement for a series petrol you can make.

I have a Simon BBC distributor in Series 111 and it is fantasic

I just ordered a high end ign kit from the simonbbc , the whole
kit and caboodle, dizzy, leads and coil.

Fitted a Powersparks kit recently. The kit with leads and coil.
When I refitted it I put the plug leads on cylinders 3 and 4 the
wrong way round. :wanker:
It still started and ran, albeit very lumpy!!
After all these years of points and condensors I can't believe
how good a 2.25 petrol can run.

I'd agree with all of the above.
Have had nothing but trouble with points on my 2.25 since I've
had. Had no end of sets burn up and/or melt - just can't buy
good points anymore it would seem :banghead
Bought the Powerspark conversion kit for £25 and it's made a big
difference (namely, it always starts now!) :thumbs:
One quick word of advice though; I'm always nervous about the
generic, electronic replacement dizzys.
There were many, many different advance curves for different
engines. Seeing how these replacement dizzys are fairly generic
across all 4 cylinder 45D4 dizzy applications, the advance curve
is bound to be a compromise.
If you have a pukka Lucas dizzy, still in good shape, I'd rather
go the conversion route. You'll have it done in an hour, easy
