Timing, from what I've read God help me!

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Just going through a re build on my series 3 2/14 diesel and I
am starting to dip my toe in to the dark world of timing this
thing, and I've stumbled at the first hurdle!
The timing mark thingy on the flywheel housing is not there its
just an empty hole where with nothing in it.
Do any of you fine gentlemen know where I can get one! I
presume I can't go any further till this little sucker is in
       there!
       Thanks for looking
       Andy

Engine number required please! Also, do you have the correct
       flywheel and housing fitted?

I cant make the engine number out. it looks like it has 'worn'
out and I don't mean ground off or anything like that, its a
       very feint stamp!
Flywheel and housing is the one that I have just took off it but
it doesn't mean its the right one. My landy is an '82 so I
thought it would have a 5 main bearing engine but when ive
stripped it its only a 3 main bearing so it pre-dates '80.
The engine and gearbox are both out of the machine.
       Any help will greatly received.
       Cheers
       Andy

Andy, maybe I am closest to you. Do you want the flywheel if it
helps? All the markings you need though the casing went to the
scrap yard. Do you have the metal pointer in your flywheel
housing window to show you the position of the flywheel?

That's the part I am looking for I have everything else. there
is just a hole in the housing where it should be.

that is the bit that has gone with the housing to the great
metal skip in the sky, sorry. I am sure you are sure it is not
there. On mine it was a triangle of metal that was welded onto
the housing. you only see it or feel it by putting your finger
       in the hole. oooh

My 1980 3 bearing pointer is a separate bit that fits over the
studs. Its the same shape as the gasket with a bit sticking down
and out for the pointer. You can buy one from here.

jeepers, It was binned with the rest of the flywheel housing. I
really should have taken more care in taking bits off.
