diesels in derby

Just come through Derby on the train at 8.00 am through two
separate clouds od diesel smoke as lots of yellow liveried
network rail locos are being started up. One particulary
fetching cloud was light grey with intermittant black as a class
45 (deltic look aliky thing) was starting. Very cumulo nimbus

I think you'll find that the locomotives were turned off, and on
the other side of them, out of your view, Eastwood had booted-up
his motor.
The two great chimneys of smoke were created by his initial
start-up, followed by him breaking down, fitting yet another
bummed Tdi with a nail for a Woodruff key, then going on his way
again.
I suspect a Deltic's weight in scrap L-R drivetrains was
generated by the time he left the sidings.

Saw them in Derby Station a couple of hours later, (Class 31 top
and tailed) not smoking to much by then......
But going though Burton-on-Trent, I had to slow down abit as i
couldnt see anything but the smoke screen that Class 56 038 was
making, running up and down the yard next to the main line.

Just seen 2 big old diesels roll past work ( sheffield on the
line going south taking the manchester & london lines ) 2
loco's with only 2 bright yellow network rail carriages between
them. sadly too quick to get my camera out
engines were painted with direct rail services logos

DRS supply the locos for Network track/test trains, along with
Networks own (Class 31,37,43,57,73,86)
