       Is their a thing with *vs reg plates,  is it an age related
       thing?

       Stuey, *vs are as far as I can rember old Scottish plates that
       were never issued, and these are being used when some greedy PO
       has sold of the old number, most of them area non transferable.

       Cheers for that,  it is what I assumed then.  There also seems
       to be a few *sl plates kicking around too,  Mr Gadgets motor
       called Weasel springs to mind.

       These regs are also issued where the original has been 'lost'
       off the system, the vehicle was never registered orinally or
       sometimes where an ex military vehicle has been issued with a
       late reg e.g. with a year letter - the owner can apply for a
       suitable age-related plate.
       Age related plates are very common on old Land Rovers upto 1962
       as the plates get sold, but also because a lot were legitimately
       not registered originally. After 1963, you get a year letter so
       it is harder to tell what is age related. That said, genuine 'A'
       suffix plates were only issued by a few authorities and year
       letters only became universal (except for Northern Ireland) in
       1965.
