Anyone know what size crank bolt head is on 2.5 NA Diesel
       engine?

Just investigating cause of cambelt failure on the Sherpa 2.5
       Engine I picked up.
Lots of black gungy oil in timing casing, which looks to have
come from the crankshaft seal and contaminated/softened the
       timing belt.
Question is, what size is the bolt, it's bigger than everything
I have in my tool/socket box.
Can borrow big spanners from work, but would be good to know
what size to borrow, rather than borrow a full set of big heavy
       spanners.
       MArk
PS I assume the Sherpa one is the same size as the Landy
       equivalent.

       42mm, I think.
       It's certainly that on 2.25 and I'm big-percentage certain it's
       the same on Sherpa.

41mm. Confirmed for a LR 2.5n/a. You'll probably find its been
torqued up to roughly 'a block of wood in the crank and a 6'
       scaff bar Nm' ;D

       Thanks chaps
Will be on lookout for 41/42mm sockets and spanners locally
       then.
       (Ohh and a scaffold bar!!!)

Having spent much of the day trying to breath life into this
engine, ie putting cambelt/push rods/flywheel on it, I can
indeed confirm that the crankshaft nut is 2mm bigger than the
largest (adjustable) spanner that I have.
On the plus side, I was able to rotate it freely with my nice
big water pump pliers, so all appears to be well inside.

       Forget the "adjustable spanner"
Go out and get a proper tool for the job.
Otherwise you could very well end up with something rounded and
that is far worse than buying the right tool for this job.
No friends / workshop you can ask ?

Gonna have a mooch round at work, should be able to find
       something hopefully.
Failing that a very large set of stilsons is the last resort.

Most reasonably priced 3/4 inch socket sets have a 41mm socket.
       Its the 42mm they usually lack;
I seem to recall having a chat with Mr Gadget about this a
while back; can't remember exactly but he needed a 42mm and a
long one at that for Fraggle. Buying a long 42mm socket is
pretty expensive but he managed to borrow one.
