in the splines on the drive shafts, drive flanges etc, check
wheel bearings, then carry spares if you are worried, it is all
simple to work and spares are not too hard to find for standard
series motors. The issue is if you fit something more
specialised or rare the spares are harder to locate in the
       middle of nowhere.

       This is my thoughts exactly.
Every time I search for other options on series axles I always
end up with standard rover/salisbury as the best for me.
Ofcours I want bigger and better, but it cost more and are
harder to get. Ie custom 24 spline halfshaft to sereis length.
But I have one front and rear axle in spare. And parts are easy
to get. (don't know in Sahara , but were I travel.)
The only upgrade I think would be nice is a disk brake kit.
That straight forward and with easy to get parts.

See my truck - the idea behind it is to undertake this kind of
       travel...
200Tdi, R380 (short)/part time 4WD, disc brakes, twin tanks, LSD
       etc

I'm about going for a gasflowed cylinder head from Turner for my
2.5 na diesel. What do I have to think of additionally?
Should I check the camshaft as well? The block got overhauled a
few years ago. I just need to change one piston which got
slightly damaged when a ventile guide broke. The oilpump is
still the first one and it could be a good idea to replace it by
       an overhauled.
       Further thoughts?

:smilewide: made I chuckle - in all seriousness, the disc
braked higher spec ones supplied to BT were ok, it was the
bottom spec that got fobbed off to the Forces that was
       horrendous...

Right now I'm checking the option of two auxiliary tanks (LH and
RH front). Should I go for the STC613 military tank? Which brand
should I prefer? There a quite big price differences by
comparing with genuine parts. How do I connect all three tanks
(diesel engine!)?. The setup should be simple and reliable at
       the end.

Correct. Mud sucked into places it shouldn't have been sucked.
It was the starter motor "shit/no access" that took the time
       though.
I hold Lucy wholly responsible, having cast the gauntlet
       wagfinger
       Great thread btw.
