       Smokie

Smokie is SWMBO's Series 3. She needs quite a bit of TLC
(including new doors!) but still runs. She had a 1974 UK reg
plate before taking on her new "identity". She's called Smokie
as with her 2.25 diesel power plant in its current state she
generates quite a smoke screen on start up...

Unfortunately, sacrifices must be made - in this case, the
breaking of this old girl :(

The engine is a 2.5TD that is due to end up in Smokie (that's
the plan anyway). Other parts will be transferred as needed.

Nice one, I like the donor with 2 ex-military tilt bars!

:) If money was no object, we'd be doing that one up too!
Unfortunately it is not to be :( The truck cab and wings have
already gone to aid other local restorations.
The donor appears to have been used winching boats off a beach -
anything that could have rusted did! Salt water is not kind to
       landrovers...

Well, we stripped the dashboard out of the spares 88 to find
lots of rust so we've been busy cleaning up and rust-treating it
in preparation for painting - unfortunately, we also need to
recover the dash top as muppet here managed to split the (once)
intact but fragile covering to expose the rust :smiley-furious:
Thankfully, Rust-in-Peace does seem to do a good job in killing
the rust and stopping surface rust forming! Remembering to clean
the surface down with Panel Wipe first is however mandatory...
We've also been stripping the spare bonnet for rust treatment of
the frame (it's a Deluxe bonnet and in relatively good
conditiion) which has been entertaining as a PO has lined the
inside with a form of sound deadening that appears to be bitumen
with a moulting cat rolled over the top afterwards
:smiley-furious: It's almost clear now after lots of hard work
with scrapers, wire brushes and sanders but it hasn't been fun!
I've also found the old fan amongst the spares that came with
Smokie so that's being de-rusted, cleaned up and will be painted
before re-fitting - I don't want to be sat in traffic in the
summer without a cooling fan fitted!

       Well, some dash parts sorted

and possibly putting the cart before the horse...

Fan is now cleaned up & rust proofed & painted & ready to be
re-fitted and finally, the inside of the spare bonnet is clean
enough to be painted. I've sprayed the frame in rust killer and
will leave it until I locate some etch primer, just to ensure
that all the rust gets treated!

Will either of those 2 ex mil tilt bars on your donor be surplus
       to your requirements ?

Hi Toots, yes one will! I have no idea which courier will pick
something like that up from here though!
